Software Defect Resolution Workflow in Enterprise Teams

Software defect resolution workflow is an important quality control process in enterprise teams where defects must be reported, analyzed, assigned, corrected, tested, and closed in a disciplined manner. In large software projects, weak defect resolution can lead to delayed fixes, unclear ownership, repeated reopening, poor communication, release delays, and reduced software reliability. This article discusses how a structured workflow helps teams manage defects from initial reporting to final closure. It explains the role of defect logging, severity and priority classification, assignment rules, root cause analysis, developer correction, retesting, regression checks, and closure approval in improving defect handling. The article also highlights common challenges such as incomplete defect descriptions, duplicate tickets, delayed developer response, unclear acceptance criteria, and pressure to close defects before proper verification. A structured defect resolution workflow is presented to improve accountability, reduce defect aging, strengthen coordination between testers and developers, and support reliable release decisions. The study concludes that effective defect resolution workflows improve software quality, reduce rework, and support stable delivery of enterprise applications.
