Abstract

Data consistency management is important in distributed database systems because data is stored, replicated, and accessed across multiple nodes, locations, and network environments. Distributed databases must ensure that users receive reliable and correct data even when transactions, updates, failures, and synchronization delays occur across different sites. Existing literature highlights replication control, distributed transactions, concurrency management, commit protocols, consistency models, conflict resolution, and fault-tolerant recovery as major techniques for maintaining consistency. However, many distributed systems still face challenges such as update conflicts, network latency, replication delay, partial failures, stale reads, deadlocks, and difficulty balancing consistency with availability and performance. This research is important because weak consistency management can affect transaction accuracy, reporting reliability, system trust, and enterprise decision-making. This article discusses data consistency management in distributed database systems, focusing on replication strategies, transaction coordination, locking methods, timestamp ordering, two-phase commit, conflict detection, synchronization control, and recovery mechanisms. The study concludes that effective consistency management improves data reliability, reduces transaction errors, strengthens fault tolerance, and supports scalable distributed database operations.
